Data file
DOS Data file structure

There is no special rule for the organization of the bytes in a data file. Each Atari software which creates and manages their own data files may impose its own rule, and may impose or not special file header(s).

The only rule to follow in order to remain compatible is the following DOS rule: the 3 information bytes for sector chaining (Byte per Sector and Next Sector) must be used. Moreover, these informations should always be generated par the Atari DOS file functions for creation, reading and writing.
